This time of year is magical for children of so many ages. Tonight, as Stella and Sophia had a very lengthly conversation about what Chippy, our Elf on a Shelf, would tell Santa tonight and where Chippy would be tomorrow, I couldn't help but smile at the magic. The wonder and awe of the season is so joyful and much needed.
As I have flipped through blogs and scanned tweets I have loved all the gift suggestions. This made me think about some of our favorite gifts and those of family and frineds. So, I decided I should write a post about gifts too.
If you talk to the girls amazing grandparents they would tell you we have a lot of toys, especially stuffed animals! So, if you are looking for ideas for your grandkids that do not include adding to the toy collections, check into music, art, and sport classes for your grandkids! By purchasing a class or paying a portion of the class for your grandkids you are giving them something they can enjoy while helping them develop their skills and talents. It is magical watching them learn and grow!
We're fortunate to live in Chicago and are close to Park Ridge and Niles so we have lots of options from park district programs to specialized classes. As I have looked at classes for Stella and Sophia I have looked for things that will spark their curiositiy, will help them grow, and are special. And, I have looked for classes that I thought their grandparents might enjoy attending with the girls.
The girls were part of Ms. Jodi's Jiggle Jammer music classes in Park Ridge when they were toddlers and we all loved the classes! It was just magical - every class! The girls loved singing the songs Ms. Jodi wrote, playing instruments, playing with her large asortment of puppets, doing parachute games, learning how to march and do hand motions to the songs, and playing with bubbles at the end of every class. And, the girls loved playing Ms. Jodi's guitar at the end of class. I was working at the time the girls were taking Ms. Jodi's classes and the classes were so special that I worked my schedule so I could zip across Park Ridge and have some special time with the girls. My mom also came along many times and we all had a ball. We think Ms. Jodi is so great that she came to the girl's third birthday party and we go to her children's shows at festivals. This type of class would be magical for your grandchildren. Check out Ms. Jodi's website for more information and check out her Facebook page!
My Messy Mommy sister-in-law, Holly loves the teachers at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and her daughter, Eleanora has loved taking classes there over the years. Holly and Elanora are also fans of cooking classes at the Chopping Block in Lincoln Square!
My Messy Mommy pal, Brooke loves ballet lessons for her sweet Sofia at the Joffrey Ballet and they have had a ball with Sofia being in the Nutcracker this Christmas.
Sophia and Stella took fantastic art classes this past summer at the Brickton Art Center in Park Ridge and did very fun and unique art projects. Nana, my mom, has also gone to many cooking, sports, and art classes in the great Chicago Park District programs over the years.
The girls have loved taking classes and it has been so fun to see the magic of them trying something new and learning. I have also loved the magic of sharing some of these special moments with their grandparents. Those special times together will be the gifts that I cherish for years to come!
Wising you a very Merry Christmas and happy holiday shopping!
