Late one evening, I was scrolling through Facebook trying to unwind after a hectic day of chasing my energizer bunnies, otherwise known as my 5-year-old twins, Sophia and Stella. I stopped on a post from the amazing Ashley Watson that showed her going away celebration from her fantastic career at Tri Delta. I have known Ashley forever and am so proud of her huge contributions to DDD and fierce dedication to our sorority. Her deep sense of style and flair for design had such a wonderful impact on DDD and our members over the years. I was thrilled for Ashely that she was pursuing her passion in makeup and inspiring people.

Over the next few weeks I loved seeing Ashley’s MAC makeup posts on Facebook and Instagram. Her talent sparkled across the posts and made me think about my own approach to makeup. Let’s be real, I’m a hot mess a lot of the time. My gal pal bloggers, Holly (my sister-in-law and DDD sister) and Brooke and I talked about our messy lives and celebrating the messiness when we named our blog. I definitely feel a mess most mornings. I’m dashing around the house making lunches, getting the girls up, checking the homework folders, trying to persuade the girls to eat breakfast and a bunch of other little things. I try to squeeze in a couple of minutes to at least put on a touch of makeup before drop off. But, half the time I’m trying to get the girls out the door and end up at school not quite ready for the day. I’m always impressed with the moms like, Katie and Dianna who are ready to hit the world full force.

I recently saw a super cute post by Ashley and her eyes sparkled. I thought back to several years ago when I was at a Tri Delta convention. I was so grateful to be going on to the Tri Delta Executive Board. I asked Ashely if she would do my makeup for the installation ceremony because I wanted to look extra nice and had little faith in my own makeup abilities. Ashely has always loved makeup and has been doing makeup for brides and special events for years. She happily agreed and did a wonderful job. As I stood on the stage with Michelle Shimberg, Linda McLinden, LuAnn Daniel and Kristi Horner I was so humbled and happy. While listening to the steadfast words I shifted every so slightly and got my high heel stuck in the staging. I started to wobble and swung my arms backwards and grazed the staging drapery. I suddenly thought, “OMG! I’m going to fall off the stage and pull down all the drapery! At least my makeup looks good!” I somehow pulled my shoe out of the staging floor and recovered without further incident.

I chuckled as I thought back to that special day and sent Ashley a message on Facebook. I asked Ashley if we could do a Facetime makeup consult session. I asked Ashley if she could give me tips for busy moms on how to do your makeup in 10 minutes or less. I also asked her if she would share what would be three things every busy mom should have on hand. Ashley happily agreed and we set up our makeup session.

So, I dropped the girls at school one morning and went home with no makeup on. I made a cup of coffee and Facetimed Ashley. It was so fun to catch up with Ashley as we sipped our coffee. Then it was time to get down to makeup business! Our session was awesome, easy, and fun!

I told Ashley that I also wanted to write a mom blog post about her new business venture and asked her a bunch of questions during our makeup session. Following is our Q&A and what I learned from MAC Pro Ashley!

You had an opportunity to do something different with your career. What made you go into makeup?
"People ask me about makeup all the time and it's my passion. I love makeup for real people. It can seem so freaking complicated and scary for people. No real person has hours to do their makeup everyday. I'm a professional and can do my makeup in about 10 minutes. You can too."

What is your advice about putting on makeup in the morning?
"Show up camera ready because you never know what could happen today! You can do nice make up in even 3 minutes. And, if you have 10 minutes you’re going to look like a model. Your husband is going to go whoa!"

I laughed at Ashley's answer and told her that I couldn't even imagine doing nice makeup in 10 minutes, let alone in 3 minutes! But get this, Ashley taught me how to do makeup in 3 minutes! Keep reading and check out Ashley's 3 minute YouTube MAC makeup video below!

Why do you love doing makeup?
"I love to make people feel the best version of themselves but hotter. When you get a new lipstick color, that has the same effect as new shoes or new clothes. I want you to be comfortable in your own skin, together we'll enhance what you are already working with. I believe that all women are beautiful and mascara helps a little bit. One of my favorite t-shirts says All you need is coffee and mascara.''

Ashley and I worked on makeup and as we chatted and then she shared the "3 makeup must haves."

1. Cream eye shadow.
"Cream eye shadow is a must have. Look for things you can use with your hands, are easy to reapply, and you can take with you. You can use your finger to apply the cream eye shadow. I love a neutral color. I also love a bronze color. You can use the bronze on your lower lid and use it on your cheeks."

As Ashley explained I had to stop her. What?! Cream eye shadow?! I have never bought cream eye shadow. OK, maybe back in the 80's and it was probably blue. But not as an adult. Then, I had to stop her again. What?! Use my finger to put on eye shadow? This was baffling to me! Ashley showed me how and it looked so easy! I was sold!

2. Mascara.
"Every girls needs mascara! I love mascara! So simple and makes you feel so good! Mascara is one of my go to makeup items. I love the MAC mascara."

3. Lipstick.
"You should always have lipstick in your bag.  My favorite is MAC VIVA GLAM 5. This is the gift I like to give to my brides and is the most neutral. And, what is amazing about this lipstick and the VIVA GLAM products is that 100% goes back to the MAC AIDS Fund."

Ashley went on to share that she recommends always using a tinted moisturizer because it color corrects and protects. She showed me how to do my eyes and the eyeliner. She made makeup so much less scary for me. Ashley showed me that nice makeup was something this busy mom could do. Her makeup sparkled and my confidence began to slightly shimmer. Ashley told me that her three must haves - cream eye shadow, mascara, and lipstick can all be easily tossed in my purse and then I would be ready for day. If I needed to, I could touch up with just those three items throughout the day.

Ashley and I had such a fun MAC makeup session. I learned so much! And, we laughed a lot. I asked her one final question.

If there was one thing you wanted people to know, what would it be?
"Everybody is beautiful. You don’t have to have a bunch of makeup. Makeup can make you feel good. Makeup makes me feel like I got up and got dressed and am ready to conquer the world. And, you can do it too in just 3 minutes."

The one thing I know, is that Ashley is an amazing MAC pro makeup professional and you should contact Ashely to book your own FaceTime makeup session!
