Sophia and Stella, my five-year-old twins, received a fun FaceTime call from their cousin, Eleanora in December. Eleanora was making slime and wanted to show the girls. They peered into the phone as Eleanora stretched and twisted the very cool pink slime! She told Sophia and Stella that it was easy to make and that we could make slime together over the holidays. Her mom, Holly assured me that it really was easy to make and a fun, multi-sensory project.
The holidays became a whirlwind of school Christmas events, breakfasts with Santa, and family holiday gatherings. During Christmas break the girls caught colds and that hampered some of our plans. We forgot about making slime and when school resumed shifted back into our busy school schedule.
I received an email from Michael's all about making slime and decided we needed to jump on the slime bandwagon. The girls had also watched several YouTube videos of kids making slime and wanted to try it out. I must confess I was a bit intimidated and was slightly worried that making slime might be super messy and hard for the twins. I searched slime on Pinterest and found tons of slime recipes and slime projects! Clearly, I was very late to the slime trend.

Sophia, Stella, and I jumped in the mini-van and went to Michaels. The girls were so excited to pick out their glue and glitter. Michaels had an awesome end cap display that included instructions and ideas. We hit Jewel for the liquid starch and headed home.
I was still really nervous as sometimes my well intended craft projects go very wrong, especially with twins! I remembered Eleanora telling us how fun it is to make slime and that it was easy so I pressed on.
Making slime with Sophia and Stella was awesome! The girls loved mixing the slime and were fascinated as it started to thicken. Sophia and Stella thought it was so cool to see the coloring change as we added food coloring and loved making the slime fancy with glitter.

As the girls smashed the slime into balls and pulled and twisted the slime I couldn't help but think what had I been waiting for?!! Thank goodness for Eleanora for telling us to make slime and for Michael's encouraging email! Better late than never! I hope you jump on the slime band wagon today! We had a ball and the girls thought it was awesome! I did too!

Following is the slime recipe we used and tips from Eleanora and Aunt Holly!
5 oz. clear Elmer's Glue
1/2 cup - 3/4 cup liquid starch
Food coloring
Glitter
Plastic spoon or popsicle sticks

- Cover the table with paper - making slime can be a little messy!
- Poor 5 oz. clear Elmer's Glue into a bowl.
- Pour liquid starch into the glue a little at a time and stir with a plastic spoon or popsicle stick. Glue will start to thicken. Continue adding the liquid starch and mixing the slime. As the slime thickens you can mix with your hands which the kids loved!
- Once you have added all the liquid starch and worked the slime into a ball, add the food coloring. Great tip by Aunt Holly! Otherwise your hands may turn colors as you work on the slime.
- Next add the glitter and continue to mix the slime.
- Play with the slime!
- Have fun!
- Store the slime in a plastic container.
